The UK ETA, explained without the jargon
Who may need one, what it permits, and what travellers should prepare before applying.
What an ETA is
An electronic travel authorisation allows eligible travellers to travel to the UK, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man for visits of up to six months for tourism, family visits and certain other permitted reasons.
What it is not
An ETA is not a visa, does not guarantee admission at the border, and is not decided by UK ETA Trip or any other private assistance service.
What to prepare
Each traveller needs a valid passport, contact details, answers to travel and suitability questions, and the required digital images. Families must complete an application for every traveller, including children.
Rules can change. Confirm current requirements and apply directly, if preferred, through GOV.UK.
